Castles and Hotels in Souss
Souss Massa Valley: the story of the West part of the region is essentially based on Agadir's, which means "attic" in the local dialect Tachelhite. This name has been given by Berber fishermen who designed a grotto in an attic. From the beginning of the 15th century, Agadir caught the attention of the European, mostly of the Portuguese, who used to seal along the coasts so as to discover India. In 1496, the Portuguese Juan de Siguiera constructed and sold a salting machine for fishes to the Portugal King Don Emmanuel, in the North of the actual harbour. The King fortified it and used it for business and fishing. In 1517, Al Kaïm Li Amri Allah Essaâddi created Agadir-Ighir. In 1913, Agadir was occupied by the French who built there harbour and aerian infrastructures. In 1930, it has been transformed in a complete city. After the Second World War, European executives and investors settled in the region. On February 29 1960 an earthquake destroyed par of Agadir. The day after, its Majesty Mohammed V decided its whole reconstruction.
Drâa's Valley: in Foum Chena and in Tazarine, ten thousand year-old rupestrian engraves do testimony of the region's history.
