Versailles is located in the French department of Yvelines and the region of Ile-de-France. Versailles planned of Louis XIV was century-long, from 1682 to 1789, the political center of absolutism before it became the cradle of the French Revolution. After it had lost its status as the seat of the king, Versailles became in 1790 the capital of the Seine-et-Oise and in 1968 Yvelines and a bishop's see. Versailles is now a residential area and is actually still in the Parisian suburbs.

Versailles is with its castle and the giant park a main attraction.
