Today Sedan is known for its castle, that is claimed to be the largest fortified medieval castle in Europe with a total surface of 30.000 m2 on 7 levels. It is the only remaining part of the once enormous fortifications in and around the town.

The city of Sedan is located at around 15 km from the belgian border and is at equal distance from Charleville to Mézières, in the departement of the french Ardennes. In Belgium, the front city is Bouillon. The castle of Sedan is construct on a big rock close to the forest.
