Pau is a historic town, the capital of Béarn and the birthplace of Henry IV. The site is sublime, facing the Pyrenees, on a terrace overlooking the tumultuous Gave. The town became an elegant tourist resort, the meeting place of the British and international aristocracy.

It is famous for the Boulevard des Pyrénées, a walk of three-quarters of a kilometer from the Castle to the Parc du Beaumont and the royal Beaumont Park with magnificent views of the mountains in the Pyrenees mountain range.
